You wake up early this morning, you could not sleep the night before. You were awake all night plotting. Plotting how you can fake sick, missing school and work. Knowing you would have the house to yourself until 7pm. Your entire plan for the day depends on how sick you can look for the next five minutes. Your mother walks in, asking why you are not in the shower. You respond slowly, telling your mother about your massive headache. She advices you to take two Advil, shower, then see how you feel. She leaves you confused, wondering whether you can continue acting sick for the next half hour. After a long shower, you complain to your mother claiming it is impossible for you to attend school. Your mother sympathizes and allows you to miss a day of school. This is when your day begins.
You go back to sleep, resting for what you plan to be a long day. First you go to IHOP for breakfast. You did not feel comfortable going somewhere so close to your school, but it did not take much convincing to change your mind. At IHOP you feel completely comfortable and are enjoying your meal with your friends. Just as your waitress is bringing the check you notice your third period teacher walking in the door. Immediately you duck down pay the bill and leave. That was a close call. After the scare everyone decides it is best to go somewhere that their teachers would never go during the day. Next the four of you jump on a train heading towards New York City. There are millions of people walking through New York City on any given day. You thought there was no chance of you running into a teacher. While walking into a Mc Donald's you notice your friend. You go up to him and ask him why he is not in school. He reminds you of the field trip. You look down the block and see one hundred students and five teachers all coming your way. You and your friends all go back to your own houses in fear of being caught.
At noon, you declare your sick day a waste. The entire day all you did was run away from the teachers you would have seen in school. instead of having a fun day out with your friends, you learned not to lie and skip school.
I enjoyed this a lot. It is so ironic that you try so hard to get away from school, but you keep bumping into teachers and your peers. I agree with you that you might as well have attended school that day.

ReplyDeleteYOu came home at noon?? You went to IHOP and te city and came back for an afternoon siesta? You should have taken full advantage of your day off, and spent the last 2 hours and 40 minutes going somewhere else, after all, the third times the charm. If you were to go somewhere farther like New Jersey or Massachusetts, I don't think any of your peers will be there.
I like the irony of your story....of course on the one day you stay home, you run into the people you were trying to avoid!
